Project Overview
This was a graphic design project, centered around Adobe Illustrator. The focus was using point, line, plane, texture, and rhythm to define a character and their attributes. We were assigned to take a character of choice, mine being Palkia from Pokemon, and create an abstract version of them. This abstract version needed to not be an exact recreation of them with simple shapes, but really focus on what defines the characteristics of them and how to use point, line, plan, etc. to resemble them in a way that is identifiable without being an exact recreation.
My Process
For this project I wanted a character I knew well and could really tell how it moves and what defines it. I chose Palkia, taking a reference photo and dropping it into photoshop. I created a rough recreation of it with basic shapes first to see which would work best with certain body parts. I then moved that to the opposite side of the art board, having both beside it in Illustrator. I then barrowed components from the recreation I made, and completely remade others where I saw potential for representing rhythm and more representational design.
